Palmodictyon

Habitat:

 

Palmodictyon is an alga that is found in freshwater environments.

 

Importance:

 

Palmodictyon is a microorganism that harvests its energy from sunlight using a process known as photosynthesis.  During photosynthesis, oxygen is released.  In addition, Palmodictyon and other photosynthetic microbes are the basis for the food chain in aquatic environments.

 

Classification:

 

Palmodictyon is a green alga.  Its cells are linked together by jelly-like strands that branch irregularly.

 

Size:  Individual cells are 5-10 mm in diameter.
