Heliozoa

Habitat:

 

Heliozoa is one of a diverse group of protozoa called heliozoans that live in both freshwater and marine environments.

 

Importance:

 

Heliozoans are part of the food chain in aquatic ecosystems.  They eat bacteria and other microbes and are eaten by larger organisms.

 

Classification:

 

Heliozoans are a diverse group of protists that are roughly spherical with many stiff projections that surround the cell surface.  The projections are used for capturing food and for sensation, movement, and attachment.
